The Palestinian Health Ministry said one of its citizens was killed in an Israeli air strike on the Gaza border on Thursday (5/4), while tensions mounted ahead of fresh protests in the region.
The ministry said the victim, Mujahid al-Khudari, 23, died in Shifa Hospital, Gaza City, after being targeted by Israeli attacks near the border.
The Israeli military had earlier declared an aircraft "targeting an armed terrorist near a border fence," without explaining whether the attack was carried out with a drone or other aircraft.

The armed forces also declared "will not allow the security of Israeli civilians to be disturbed."
Separately on the same day, the Health Ministry announced another victim was killed by clashes in protests of tens of thousands of people last Friday.
Shadi al-Kashif (34) was shot in the head near the border in southern Gaza and has since been in critical condition before he was finally killed.
This death brought the death toll to 18 Palestinians.
There were no reports of Israeli casualties until this news was revealed.
Israel faces an independent investigation by the EU and United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres over the violence between Israeli and Israeli troops.
The Palestinian side said demonstrators were fired on despite not making threats to soldiers.
Thousands of people are expected to return to demonstrations on Friday (6/4).
